Design
G3

After
function, comes form, and after form comes the design of the actual
human experience: Design G3.
We can perhaps best understand the import, potential and value of
Design G3 by thinking about truly great Industrial Design. Apple's
iMac computer, the integrated whole of its hardware and software,
is a great example of designing the very experience of the product,
the emotional payoff to consumers, way beyond the function or even
elegant form.

Apple iMac
In
essence, Apple's iApps (iMovie, iDVD, iTunes & iPhoto) empower
everyday consumers to to unleash their creativity, to tell their
own stories. What is personally fulfilling for consumers is great
business strategy for Apple.

Applying
this G3 Industrial Design lesson to the design of places, means
defining the experience, the emotion of place, and then designing
the functions and forms to support that most human of outcomes.
While great designers usually have an innate, nearly unconscious
sense of the feel or mood of an environment, Design G3 integrates
the what and why with the where, melding the activities and personal
motivation into the design of an environment.
Design
G3 has huge potential beyond leisure destinations. The office,
the factory, the ride to work or stroll down the street all can
be augmented with experience, creating Enriched
Realitysm.
